Embracing Change: Charting a New Course in My Design Journey

Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.
— John D. Rockefeller

One of the fundamental aspects of being a designer is the capacity for change. We constantly adapt, innovate, and reimagine - in essence, we design. This principle is not limited to the work we do but extends to how we shape our professional journey.

For years, I was fortunate to co-create and lead Mindsailors Design Studio, one of the most prestigious and recognized design studios in Poland. It was a time of tremendous growth, full of successful projects, innovative solutions, and hard-earned recognition. But there came a moment when I felt the pull towards something new.

Making significant changes, especially ones that involve leaving behind familiar terrain, can be challenging. However, in my case, the decision was straightforward. I yearned for the freedom to pursue my own dreams, the space to work on personal projects, and the opportunity to explore the possibilities of freelancing.

In 2017, after several enriching years as CDO of Mindsailors, I decided to embark on a new journey as an independent product designer. This decision wasn't just about carving out more time for my dreams, but also about seeking out new challenges, diversifying my experience, and pushing the boundaries of my creative expression.

This transition was not without its challenges, but it was an important step in my journey. Following the sale of Mindsailors, I founded Homessence, a brand that beautifully blended the realms of design and real estate. This venture provided me with the opportunity to create, manage, and transform investment opportunities into premium products for discerning clients. It was a unique blend of my design expertise and new business acumen that pushed me into uncharted territories.

Life, especially a designer's life, is about continuous evolution. Every challenge faced, every transition navigated, and every change embraced is an opportunity for growth and transformation. The decision to leave Mindsailors and chart my own path was not just about reinventing my professional journey; it was about staying true to the principles of design – embracing change, fostering innovation, and relentlessly pursuing my passion.

It's crucial not to fear revolutions in your life, particularly in your professional one. Remember, new beginnings are often disguised as painful endings. But, as designers, we thrive in change; we reshape our lives just as we shape the world around us. Embrace change, pursue your dreams, and create your own path - because, in the end, the only limits that exist are the ones we set for ourselves.
